The City of Reno has begun installing 40 new 'hot paws' signs in various city parks and along the riverfront. These signs aim to raise awareness among pet owners about the dangers of hot surfaces for their pets, particularly during the summer months.

As temperatures increase, surfaces such as asphalt, concrete, and sand can become extremely hot and pose a significant risk to pets. The new signs will serve as reminders for pet owners to check surface temperatures before allowing their pets to walk on them.

Earlier this year, Reno resident Dana Delicino contacted Mayor Hillary Schieve with a request for these signs. In response, the city designed and manufactured the signs, beginning installation during the week of July 8, 2024. Residents will see these new signs in downtown parks, along the riverfront, in dog parks, and in parks with paved walking paths.

Reno Fire Department’s arson dog Boston is featured on the signs.
