In our ongoing commitment to keep citizens and media informed we’ve summarized the outcomes of a few key agenda items from today’s Regular Meeting of the Reno City Council. Staff Reports with more information are linked below:

B.6– Economic Development Initiative Community Project Funding Grant

Council accepted the FY2022 Economic Development Initiative Community Project Funding Grant for the City of Reno Parks Restroom Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Facility Upgrades in the amount of $1,056,00. The project sites include Idlewild Park Snowflake Shelter, Idlewild Park Kiddieland, Huffaker Park, and Manzanita Park. See more information in this press release. 

B.10 & B.11 – Resolution Accepting Streets at Silver Dollar Estates

Council moved to approve staff’s recommendations to a resolution accepting streets at Silver Dollar Estates Area 1 - Phase 2, FNL20-00014, including Cloudburst Drive, Desert Sunrise Court, and a portion of Brown Bear Drive. As well as FNL19-00009, including Aurora View Court, Aurora View Drive, Calm Sky Court, Blue Twilight Drive, and portions of Gazing Star Drive and Iris Rainbow Drive. The City will be responsible for future repairs and maintenance as well as any replacements of all accepted streets. The subject streets will be added to the street inventory. 

D.2 & D.3 - New Reno Fire Department Central Station Facility

Council approved the repurposing of the Reno Police Headquarters parcel located at 455 E. Second Street to be the future site of the new Reno Fire Department Central Station. Council also approved a consultant agreement with Dowl for the site civil schematic design and demolition administration for the project in an amount not to exceed $419,029. Furthermore, Council approved a consultant agreement with TSK for the architectural schematic design for the project in an amount not to exceed $404,300.

D.4- 82nd (2023) Session of the Nevada Legislature City Updates 

In an effort to keep Council informed about the legislative process, Nic Ciccone, Legislative Relations Program Manager provided updates on various bills and other legislative matters. Nic will continue to give updates periodically until June 2023. 

D.5- American Rescue Plan Act Local Fiscal Recovery Funds

Council approved the remaining balance of Coronavirus State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds, investing $28,150,044.97 in projects to benefit residents throughout the City. Priority projects include Access to Healthcare, Affordable Housing, Community Programs, Pandemic Response, and Parks and Recreation. 

Background: Council approved seven general spending priorities on August 21, 2021. These priorities were identified following a significant amount of community engagement including in-person and online engagement through surveys and potential project submissions. 

I.1- Riviera Planned Community Five-Unit Condominium Development

Council affirmed the appeal to deny the tentative map and reverse the Planning Commission decision to allow a five-unit condominium development at the Riviera Planned Community based on the review of the staff report, the record on the appeal, and information presented at the public hearing.

I.2 -  Aspire at North Hills Multi-Family Development

Council affirmed the approval made by the Planning Commission of the conditional use permit to allow the 192-unit multi-family development, known as Aspire at North Hills, and denied the appeal based on the Council’s review of the staff report, the record on appeal, and the information presented at the public hearing.
