Today during the Reno City Council meeting, Council awarded a contract to Spanish Springs Construction to complete the Teglia’s Paradise Park playground and restroom project. The decision comes after the existing playground and restroom were identified for needed improvements.

The project will include the demolition of the oldest portion of the playground and picnic shelter to make room for a custom, multi-structure inclusive playground. The new playground will include two structures, one for children ages 2-5 and another for ages 5-12, inclusive merry-go-round, zip lines, and an innovative ninja-style fitness course.

Shaded benches, picnic tables, and sidewalks will be incorporated around the playground, along with upgraded landscape and a protective fence between the playground and the parking lot. A new, pre-fabricated restroom building will be installed near the parking lot entrance and the existing restroom will be deactivated and converted to storage.

“This project is an important step in creating a more vibrant community for people of all ages to enjoy,” said Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve. “We look forward to engaging with residents in the long-term vision of Paradise Park through the upcoming master plan process.”

“I am excited to see this much-needed project coming soon to Teglia’s Paradise Park,” said Ward 3 Reno City Councilmember Miguel Martinez. “This project is sure to bring new life and energy to the park, and will continue making it a special place for residents to create fond memories for many years to come.”

The park improvements are expected to be completed by July 2023. The construction contract amount is not to exceed $1,322,900 and will be paid for using prior years’ unused Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) allocations and residential construction tax from tax district 3.

Past and Future Improvements to Teglia’s Paradise Park

Teglia’s Paradise Park was acquired in 1964 and has experienced many phases of improvements, including the installation of clay liners in two ponds in 1998, improvements to the Activity Center and parking lot in 2002, the installation of a community garden in 2003, improvements to the walking path in 2017, and the installation of a lighted mini-pitch court system in 2021. The RTC Oddie/Wells roadway improvement project is currently underway adjacent to the park, and will include the installation of a decorative steel fence and new landscaping along the park’s north side. City staff have also initiated a master plan of Paradise Park with Stantec Consulting Services Inc. to be completed in 2023.
