In our ongoing commitment to keep citizens and media informed, we’ve summarized the outcomes of a few key agenda items from today’s Regular Meeting of the Reno City Council. Staff Reports with more information are linked to below:

B.4 - School Zone Traffic Beacon Communications Equipment Purchase

Council approved the purchase of the required hardware to retrofit the City’s school zone speed limit beacon infrastructure from radio to cellular interconnection. The purchase is for an amount not to exceed $177,196.90, which includes a five-year cellular service plan from Southwest Traffic Systems, Inc. The equipment purchase has been allocated within the adopted FY23 Capital Improvement Plan (CIP).

B.5 - Purchase and Control of Access to a State Highway

Council approved an interlocal agreement between NDOT and the City of Reno for the purchase and control of access to a state highway, and the reimbursement agreement between Toll North Reno LLC and the City of Reno in an amount not to exceed $125,000 for the construction of roadway improvements and control of access located on the south side of Interstate-80 and to the southwest of Boomtown-Garson Road at Exit 4. 

B.6 - Mural Project by Rafael Blanco for the National Bowling Stadium

Council approved staff’s recommendation to commission artist Rafael Blanco for the National Bowling Stadium Mural Project in an amount not to exceed $80,000. Rafael Blanco's proposal scored the highest of the 41 total applications received for the National Bowling Stadium Mural Project Call for Artist Proposals. 

B.7 - Donation to Support Good Luck Macbeth Theatre

Council approved a resolution to donate $1,500 from Vice Mayor Reese’s Council Discretionary Funds to Good Luck Macbeth Theatre to support their mission to create relevant and impactful works of art that demonstrate the transformative power of theatre and co-create equitable opportunities for artists to express their truest authentic selves both on and off the stage in Northern Nevada.

B.8 - Donation to Support the Latino Research Center

Council approved a resolution to donate $3,000 from Councilmember Miguel Martinez’s Council Discretionary Funds to the University of Nevada, Reno Foundation to support the Latino Research Center’s mission to foster research, student achievement, faculty collaboration, advocacy and outreach.

G.1 - Ward 4 Neighborhood Advisory Board Appointment

Council moved to appoint Kathleen Eagen as a regular member of the Ward 4 Neighborhood Advisory Board.

G.2 - Ward 5 Neighborhood Advisory Board Appointment

Council moved to appoint Jeffrey Harvey as a regular member of the Ward 4 Neighborhood Advisory Board.

G.3 - Ward 4 Representative to the Human Rights Commission

Council moved to appoint Denise Reed as the Ward 4 representative to the Human Rights Commission. 

G.4 - Truckee Meadows Regional Planning Commission Appointment

Council moved to appoint Alex Velto to the Truckee Meadows Regional Planning Commission.
