Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve releases statement on the tragic death of Tyre Nichols

After the release of the Tyre Nichols video, much like many of you, I am heartbroken, angry, and devastated. I’m keeping the family and loved ones of Tyre, the Memphis community and a country in mourning close to my heart.

I stand with mayors across the country who are outraged and denouncing the heinous actions that led to the tragic death of Tyre Nichols.

In the Biggest Little City, we remain committed to a police department that builds solid relationships between law enforcement and the community they have sworn to protect. Transparency and trust are the foundation for a safer, just and stronger city.

While Reno may be removed from Memphis by many miles, it is not removed from the impact this event will have on our community. Events such as this, can leave us feeling an overwhelming amount of emotions. If you find yourself in need of support, contact the following resources:

  • National Alliance of Mental Illness Non-Emergency Resources
  • National suicide and crisis lifeline accessed by dialing 988
Sending love and light from Reno to Memphis.
