City of Reno names new Director of Maintenance and Operations

The City of Reno is pleased to announce Travis Truhill as the new Director of Maintenance and Operations. Truhill is a 35-year Nevada resident with vast experience in the areas of Community Development, Public Works, and Maintenance and Operations. He has a degree in Business Management and a Masters in Business Administration.

“We received applications and interviewed candidates from all over the country, even Canada, but I’m happy to say we found the best candidate right here in our own organization,” City Manager Doug Thornley said. “I know Travis is committed to fostering the positive work environment we've been working on, and his leadership will help all of us continue creating a community all people are proud to call home.”

The Maintenance and Operations Department was created to provide the citizens of Reno with expert and more direct oversight within the street, sewer and storm drain, fleet, and facility maintenance divisions. The Director of Maintenance and Operations position is responsible for project management oversight and administration of the Maintenance and Operations Department.

Truhill has been employed with the City since 2005, when he began working in the Community Development Department, performing engineering plan reviews for building permits. Truhill moved to Public Works Capital Projects, where he spent 10 years overseeing various programs such as the encroachment and excavation permitting, general construction inspection, sidewalk replacement program, Special Assessment Districts (SADs), and the asphalt patch program.

He was promoted to Streets Program Manager in 2017, then spent four years as the Maintenance and Operations Manager overseeing various programs such as downtown maintenance, roadway signs and paint, street sweeping, pavement maintenance and winter snow and ice control.

As Director of the newly formed Maintenance and Operations Department, he continues to oversee the Streets Maintenance Division, in addition to the divisions of Facility Maintenance, Sewer and Storm Drain Maintenance, and Fleet Maintenance.

“I'm honored to serve the citizens of this great city, and the Maintenance and Operations team will be working hard every day to make it better,” Truhill said.
