City of Reno issued the following announcement on October 11.
The City of Reno is extending the public comment period to provide more time and additional opportunities to Reno residents to learn about and provide input on the draft redistricting maps that were recently published. Residents now have until Oct. 17 to share feedback on the four preliminary options available on Reno.Gov/Redistricting.
Redistricting is a process of redrawing the boundaries of the five wards that make up the City of Reno. Every ten years following the US Census, the wards must be redrawn so that each ward is substantially equal in population. Based on new census data and using the redistricting principles adopted by the Reno City Council, the draft maps were first presented for public comment on Thursday, Oct. 7.
The public comment period was set to end on Monday, Oct. 11 but has been extended through Sunday, Oct. 17 after residents requested additional time to review the options. Community members can learn more about the process, view the draft maps, and submit online feedback at Reno.Gov/Redistricting.
“We heard from the community about the need for more time and opportunities to weigh in on the draft maps. We appreciate that feedback and are happy to respond to that request,” Government Affairs and Strategic Initiatives Administrator Calli Wilsey said. “We encourage anyone who lives in Reno who has yet to participate to take advantage of these opportunities and to make your voice heard on how the new maps should be drawn.”
In addition to the time extension, additional opportunities for the public to view the maps and provide feedback in-person are also being provided. The City is offering three additional drop-in sessions this week. City of Reno staff members, both English and Spanish speaking, will be available to talk with members of the community and answer questions at the following times:

- Oct. 13, 4-5:30 p.m. - Neil Road Recreation Center, 3925 Neil Road, Gym
- Oct. 14, 5-7 p.m. - Reno City Hall, 1 E. First Street, 1st Floor Lobby
- Visit reno.gov/redistricting to view the draft redistricting maps, find Zoom links for upcoming meetings, view past meeting materials and recordings, and learn more about the process.
- Visit reno.gov/redistricting, scroll down to click on a button labeled “Click here to provide feedback on community options and submit communities of interest information.”
- Communities of interest are a group of people in the same geographically definable area who share common social and economic interests.
