The City of Reno and Washoe County are soliciting public feedback on the Truckee River Vision Plan, aimed at enhancing the 18-mile stretch of the Truckee River Corridor between the Nevada state line and Sparks. The final round of public outreach began on July 8 and will continue through July 28. During this period, the draft plan is accessible on the City of Reno's website, featuring a new landing page with a survey and other project resources.

The City has invited media and the public to attend a community engagement open house scheduled for Thursday, July 11, 2024, to provide more information about the draft plan.

Community Open House Details:

- When: Thursday, July 11, 2024, from 4:30 PM to 7:30 PM

- Where: Reno City Hall, 1 E. First Street

Open House Schedule:

- 4:30 PM - 5:30 PM: Open House

- 5:30 PM - 6:30 PM: Presentation by Dig Studio, the project's consultant

- 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM: Q&A session

Both the presentation and Q&A session will also be available virtually.

The objective of the Truckee River Vision Plan is to create a blueprint for transforming the Truckee River into an amenity that can be enjoyed by current and future generations. Feedback collection commenced in December 2023 via a public survey and vision board. Based on stakeholder and public input collected during this phase, Dig Studio has developed a draft vision plan for further feedback from July 8 to July 28.

Residents are encouraged to provide input on desired amenities along the Truckee River corridor, such as additional restaurants, vendors, shops, trails, river access points, and shaded areas. The campaign is officially titled "Speak Up-ee for the Truckee."

In addition to long-term planning efforts, Dig Studio assisted in identifying immediate projects eligible for funding through America Rescue Act Funding. These projects approved by the City Council include new animal-resistant trash cans and pet waste receptacles; repainting railings, light poles, and bridges downtown; infrastructure improvements at West Street Plaza with a River Ranger station; event programming for two summer seasons; design for a cantilever path behind the Automobile Museum; and lighting enhancements along Riverside Drive.

"The Truckee River is an economic asset for our city," said Bryan McArdle, Revitalization Manager of the City of Reno. "We live, recreate, dine, and relax along the river. That’s why we are excited to share this first draft plan because this plan will impact how we use the river for generations to come."

City staff will present a draft plan to council later this summer for review and approval. This plan will guide future improvements along the river with funding sourced from the Redevelopment Agency.
