WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Mark Amodei (NV-02) released the following statement after voting in favor of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2024.

“The threat posed by the Chinese Communist Party is one of the most serious national security challenges facing our nation, which is why I am proud that this year’s NDAA is heavily focused on preventing Chinese aggression.

“This NDAA will deter China by building a stronger and more capable missile defense, increasing funding for new technologies like AI and hypersonics to give us the advantage in any conflict, protecting U.S. military bases and other critical infrastructure from espionage, strengthening our security partnerships with Taiwan and other Pacific allies, and preventing the Biden Administration from reducing the size of the Navy.

“Not only will this NDAA give the military the funding and resources necessary to keep America safe from our adversaries, but it will provide our service members with a 5.2% pay increase - the largest pay increase in 20 years. This pay raise along with other provisions to reduce out-of-pocket housing costs, improve access to healthcare, and continue the ban on COVID-19 vaccine mandates will be welcome news for our service members and their families.

“And last but not least, with the inclusion of my amendment to support the Air Force’s training and communication capabilities at the Nevada Test and Training Range, this NDAA will ensure Nevadans continue to play an important role in our national defense.

“The number one role of the federal government is to provide for our national defense, and with the passage of the NDAA, we are honoring that commitment. I was proud to support it.”
