WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Mark Amodei (NV-02) made the following statement after the Supreme Court ruled against President Biden’s plan to forgive $430 billion in student loans.

“Tthe Supreme Court made the correct decision. President Biden never had the legal authority to unilaterally ‘forgive’ student loan debt, and attempting to do so was nothing more than a desperate political stunt to buy votes during a midterm year.

“The truth is that student loan debt cannot be canceled, only transferred from those who borrowed to those who did not. Americans who didn’t attend college, went to a trade school, or worked hard to pay off their student loan debt should not be forced to bail out those who haven’t yet paid back their loans. Not only would this be patently unfair, but it would only further fan the flames of inflation.

“If this Administration truly wants to help Americans, they should begin working with Congress on solutions to reduce the cost of higher education, energize the economy, and create high-paying jobs.”
