A new 4-H Camp & Learning Center is coming to southern Nevada thanks to an agreement with University of Nevada, Reno Extension Clark County and Lincoln County.
The facility will provide new educational opportunities and outdoor adventures for young people that will replicate the 32-acre Nevada State 4-H Camp at Lake Tahoe, a news release from the university said this week.
“We wanted to have a facility for 4-H youth camps and hands-on outdoor learning in the southern part of the state for quite some time,” Extension Director Jacob DeDecker said in the release. “Thanks to the hard work and generosity of our partners in Clark and Lincoln counties, youth in Las Vegas, as well as those in rural communities in the southern part of our state, will have more opportunities to experience the adventure, learning, fun and friendships that 4-H camps are known to provide.”
The Nevada Board of Regents approved the project at its meeting in September.
Lincoln County is situated 100 miles north of Las Vegas, near the town of Alamo. The new 4-H Camp & Learning Center is located on 72 acres. The center consists of a 17,000-square-foot conference/retreat center and has meeting and guest rooms along with a commercial kitchen. With 17 rooms and 72 beds, the facility can house over 200 people, and it has a number of outdoor recreation facilities.
With approximately 70% of the state's population living in southern Nevada and Clark County, the facility will help young people go to camps in hopes of improving their mental wellbeing.
