A recent poll by the University of Nevada, Reno states that as the primaries are underway, emerging leaders in the Republican field have been identified.

According to a news release shared by the university, they expect elections to be tight come November with chief issues continuing to lead the way people choose to vote.

“No matter the matchup, even with less competitive candidates, they each received a similar percentage of support,” notes Jeremy Gelman, one of the University of Nevada, Reno political scientists who fielded the poll

Moreover, the first poll by the Nevada Election Survey Project, which asked 1,100 Nevadans what they thought of state officials, primary candidates, national candidates and extremely important issues like abortion, election management and the economy found that Joe Lombardo has a 33 point lead in the Republican gubernatorial primary over his closest competitor, Dean Heller, and Adam Laxalt is ahead of Sam Brown by 26 points in the Republican primary for U.S. Senate.

According to Gelman: “This suggests they have a ceiling of support right now, somewhere in the mid to upper 40s, with the rest of the electorate looking for an alternative choice. Once voters learn more about the Republican candidates, we expect polls in the fall to be much closer.”
