A professor at the University of Nevada, Reno has been named associate editor of the journal, Frontiers in Sustainable Resource Management, which publishes scientific research papers that deal with human use of natural resources.

John N. Butler Endowed Professor in Extractive Metallurgy, Eshan Vahidi, will take over associate editor duties at the journal, according to a June 6 university news release.

“With an amazing editorial team, this new open-access journal will help shape the future of sustainable materials and minerals,” Vahidi said in the release.

Vahidi's studies deal with metallurgical engineering and sustainability science, and the boundaries between them, according to the university.

His studies have also played a critical role in the construction industry regarding greenhouse gas mitigation initiatives, the release stated.

“The publication of this journal is a great opportunity to expand our sustainable economy,” said Executive Vice President and Provost, Jeffrey Thompson. “Vahidi’s appointment is a recognition of his impactful research in the area of sustainable resource management, and I look forward to reviewing his contributions as associate editor.”

The journal publishes peer-reviewed articles in more than 900 academic disciplines, according to the university.
