Nevada Lt. Gov. Kate Marshall plans to continue working to ensure that the “American Dream” can be reached by Nevadans and all Americans as she resigns to take a position in the Biden-Harris administration.

Marshall said that as senior advisor to governors within the Office of Intergovernmental Affairs, she in many ways “will work on the same issues I have during my time in elected office: to ensure the American Dream can be reached by all who seek it” she said in an official statement posted to Facebook Aug. 19 about the new role she recently accepted. Marshall was sworn into office as lieutenant governor on Jan. 7, 2019.

“While I look forward to transitioning to the White House in the late fall, I will continue to serve in my current role as Lieutenant Governor until that time comes,” Marshall said in the statement. “It is with bittersweet emotion that I begin to transition to this role. I have served this state I love for more than ten years in elected office.”

Marshall, who is a lawyer, was elected in 2006 as Nevada’s state treasurer and was re-elected in 2010, according to her biography on the state of Nevada's website.

“One of her proudest achievements as Treasurer was creating the College Kick Start program,” according to the biography. “In the first statewide program of its kind, Kate partnered with local banks to open and fund college savings accounts for every kindergartner in public school in Nevada—and she did it at no expense to the taxpayer.”

Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak will be “sad to see” Marshall leave Nevada, but he is grateful for her service and leadership, he said on Facebook.

“From expanding access to college savings plans for Nevada’s hard working-families during her service as State Treasurer to her leadership as our State’s Lt. Governor, Kate has always been a fighter for the people of Nevada,” Sisolak said in the social media post.

Sisolak can appoint a new person to the office of lieutenant governor to serve until the 2022 election, or he has the option of leaving the office open, “pending the election,” The Record-Courier reported.
