The University of Nevada, Reno’s College of Engineering conferred 138 degrees at its Winter Commencement.
The event was held at the Lawlor Events Center and the department handed out 85 bachelor's, 33 master's and 20 doctoral degrees, according to a Dec. 12 university press release.
“We are proud of our engineering graduates and wish them the best of success in their future endeavors,” Engineering Dean, Erick Jones said, before the ceremony. “Congratulations, graduates, on this significant accomplishment.”
Graduates enjoyed a free breakfast and an Order of the Engineer ceremony, which included publicly accepting the obligation of an engineer, the release stated. The obligation, similar to the Hippocratic oath of medical practitioners, is an ode to the professional and public ethics and responsibilities was attended by Jones and 37 students.
Additionally, all five of the school’s departments of engineering—Chemical and Materials, Civil and Environmental, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical and Biomedical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering—graduated students this semester, the release stated.
