A University of Nevada, Reno clinical experience team has rebuilt in-person practical experiences after COVID-19 pandemic classroom restrictions.
According to a news release issued by the university, undergraduate students in teacher education programs are undergoing a tedious 45-hour workshop that involves learning in class.
“It is no secret, though, that an online classroom cannot replace in-person schooling. As we make this transition back to in-person learning, we also welcome the new faces working alongside our students during their clinical experience,” Caroline Hatcher, director of clinical experiences, said in the release.
The Clinical Experience team is led by Hatcher and includes Washoe County School District field-based Instructors Joe Garton, Alisha Shaw and Vivian Bolanos, along with Administrative Assistant Jill Smith.
Students can utilize the skills they learn while observing other instructors in their own repertoire when they start teaching. The workshop was made possible by school staff and teachers who provided their time.
“Education – the process of learning – is the one true magic that exists in this world, and every child deserves to experience the magic," Garton said. "I want to help inspire and invigorate our future educators to not only survive in the classroom but thrive.”
