Dr. Frederick Steinmann assumed the role of director of the University Center for Economic Development on July 1. | University of Nevada, Reno
University of Nevada, Reno, announced Dr. Frederick Steinmann became director of the University Center for Economic Development on July 1, according to a news release.
The center also received an additional $1.65 million in local state and federal funding, including $825,000 from the Economic Development Administration and $125,000 from the Governor's Office of Economic Development.
“We’re very appreciative of the support from the EDA and the GOED,” Steinmann said in the release. “With this support, the center will be able to make these resources more attainable for Nevadans.”
Steinmann’s predecessor Dr. Thomas Harris stepped down after guiding the center since it was established 30 years ago, however, he will remain at the center as a part-time faculty member, working with Dr. Richard Bartholet, the director of the Sontag Entrepreneurship Competition, and Steinmann.
According to the university, Steinmann has an impressive list of educational credentials with a doctorate in policy, planning and development from the University of Southern California Sol Price School of Public Policy and bachelor's and master's degrees in economics from the UNR's College of Business.
Moreover, Steinmann was a professor in Eureka County with the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension.
