The University of Nevada, Reno’s College of Science recently held a celebration to honor parties involved within the department who excelled during the 2021-2022 academic year.

Among those honored were faculty, staff and students who contributed exceptional research, teaching and communication within the department, a recent UNR news release said.

“Each year I am inspired by the accomplishments of our faculty, staff and students in the College of Science,” Katherine McCall, interim dean of the College of Science, said in the release. “I am especially impressed by those in our community who commit time and energy to public service and outreach while pursuing challenging degrees, developing international research reputations, and/or advancing teaching excellence.”

The university reported that along with 13 faculty awards, the ceremony honored six professors; 14 Westfall Fellows and their advisors; seven faculty and staff members who are retiring; five outgoing and five incoming department heads; as well as numerous Foundation, University and Regents awardees. McCall presented the awardees with their accolades.

The following Westfall Scholar students were honored: Henry Tang, biology; Julia Davidson, chemistry; Andrew Azar, geography; Blake Shane, geological science and engineering; Tanner Miller, math and statistics; Madelyn Norberg, microbiology and immunology; Casey Crawford, neuroscience; Daniel Tooker, physics; and Megan Lovell, psychology.
