The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office announced on March 13 that it will join law enforcement agencies across Nevada for the Joining Forces Speed Awareness Campaign, which runs from March 13 through March 29. Deputies will increase traffic enforcement during this period to promote safer driving on local roads.
The campaign aims to remind drivers about the dangers of speeding and encourage responsible behavior behind the wheel. Law enforcement agencies throughout the state are working together to address this issue and reduce serious and fatal crashes.
According to the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, speeding is a significant factor in many severe accidents in Nevada. The office said that unsafe speeds are not limited to exceeding posted limits but also include driving too fast for conditions such as rain, snow, or ice. Driving at high speeds reduces reaction time, increases stopping distance, and can make crashes more severe. Slowing down gives drivers more time to respond and helps protect everyone on the road.
The Sheriff’s Office said it is committed to reducing fatalities on Nevada roads by raising public awareness about speeding, seat belt use, impaired driving, distracted driving, and other safety issues. Funding for law enforcement participation in Joining Forces is provided by the Nevada Department of Public Safety’s Office of Traffic Safety.
