The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office has announced its participation in a statewide campaign called Joining Forces, which targets impaired driving through enforcement and education. The initiative involves law enforcement agencies across Nevada working together to lower the number of crashes, injuries, and deaths related to impaired driving.
From February 6 to February 22, 2026, deputies will increase patrols throughout Washoe County. Their focus will be on identifying unsafe driving behaviors and removing impaired drivers from local roads. The campaign also urges residents to plan ahead and make responsible decisions.
Impaired driving continues to pose a significant threat to public safety. Alcohol or drug impairment can affect judgment and reaction time, putting all road users at risk. Community members are advised to arrange for a sober ride before going out by using rideshare services, taxis, or public transportation; select a designated driver who remains free from alcohol and drugs; and report suspected impaired drivers to law enforcement when it is safe.
The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office has stated its ongoing commitment to reducing traffic fatalities in Nevada by raising awareness about issues such as speeding, lack of seatbelt use, impaired driving, distracted driving, and other dangerous behaviors. More information about safe driving practices and the state’s Zero Fatalities goal can be found at www.ZeroFatalitiesNV.com.
Funding for the Joining Forces campaign comes from the Nevada Department of Public Safety’s Office of Traffic Safety and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
