Washoe County Sheriff’s Office locates fatal aircraft crash near Empire

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office announced on May 17 that it located a single-engine private aircraft with two deceased individuals inside, following a search for a missing plane last reported near Empire, Nevada.

Authorities said they received the request to assist in locating the possible missing aircraft at approximately 8:25 a.m. Search and Rescue personnel from the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, along with Pyramid Lake Fire, responded to the area and found the wreckage about 7.5 miles southwest of Empire after conducting a coordinated search effort.

The National Transportation Safety Board will conduct the formal investigation into the accident. The identities of those who died will be released by the Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner’s Office after notifying next of kin.

Officials stated that further updates regarding this case will be provided by the National Transportation Safety Board once their investigation concludes.
