On February 3, 2026, officers from the Reno Police Department responded to a welfare check near South Wells Avenue and Kuenzli Street. According to officials, contact was made with a suspect at the scene, and an officer-involved shooting occurred around 4:15 p.m.
The suspect was declared dead at the location. Authorities have stated that the individual’s identity will not be released until next of kin are notified. During the incident, a Reno Police Department officer was injured and taken to a local hospital for treatment; the officer is reported to be in stable condition.
The Washoe County Regional Officer-Involved Shooting Protocol has been activated. The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office is heading the investigation with support from the Sparks Police Department. Officials confirmed that there are no outstanding suspects or threats to public safety stemming from this event.
“This is an active and ongoing investigation. There are no outstanding suspects or threats to the public related to this incident. Additional information will be released as it becomes available. At the conclusion of the investigation, the case will be submitted to the Washoe County District Attorney’s Office for review.”
