Truckee Meadows Community College issued the following announcement on October 14.

Earlier this week, the Scenic West Athletic Conference announced that two Mighty Lizard student-athletes— sophomore Emily Mendoza-Obeso and freshman Stella Poste—were awarded Scenic West Conference Player and Goalkeeper of the Week honors for their performances against Community Christian College and Southern Nevada this past weekend.

Mendoza-Obeso takes home the honor after a weekend that saw her score three goals in two matches. The second-year forward notched a brace in the Mighty Lizards win over Community Christian on Thursday and netted the eventual game-winner in the 48th minute of Women’s Soccer’s first-ever victory over rival Southern Nevada Saturday. The three goals were her fourth, fifth, and sixth scores of the season.

Poste was named Conference Co-Goalkeeper of the Week alongside Utah State Eastern’s Macy Clements. The freshman stopper recorded six saves against Southern Nevada on October 9, leading TMCC to their second straight shutout performance following MaKensie Turner and Kaitlyn Mendoza’s clean sheet against Community Christian on Oct. 7.

Mendoza-Obeso and Poste are the second and third TMCC student-athletes to receive Player of the Week recognition this season. Freshman goalkeeper MaKensie Turner took home the honor following her performance against Colorado Northwestern on Sept. 25.

TMCC’s Men’s and Women’s Soccer teams are back in action this week. Both sides took on Lake Tahoe Community College last Tuesday evening from the TMCC Soccer Field, before hitting the road for a Sunday matchup with Salt Lake Community College. All matches will be streamed live on the Lizards Sports Network.
