The City of Reno and Volunteers of America (VOA) Northern California and Northern Nevada held a graduation ceremony and celebration for eight members of the current class of the Reno Works program on Tuesday, October 25, 2022, at Reno City Hall. The latest Reno Works session began on August 1, 2022. To date, five graduates have secured jobs, two are pursuing their commercial driver’s licenses to become professional drivers, and one is actively seeking employment.
In addition to attending classes such as resume workshops, interview prep, conflict resolution courses, mock interviews, financial literacy and renters workshops, participants assisted in beautifying the City of Reno’s parks and facilities.

About Reno Works
The 12-week Reno Works program provides a group of Community Assistance Center (CAC) residents with classes focused on life and job skills as well as providing temporary employment through community improvement projects including working in area parks, improving public facilities and cleaning along the river corridor.
“Including this class, we’ve had 95 people graduate from the program so far,” said Reno Vice Mayor and At-Large Councilmember Devon Reese. “Many unsheltered individuals throughout our community just need the opportunity and the tools to improve their lives. Reno Works provides them those skills and that chance.”
The sessions also incorporate safety training, interview skills, long-term employment preparedness, wrap-around case management and mentoring.
“Volunteers of America is proud to partner with the City of Reno to provide an employment program that uplifts individuals who have struggled with homelessness,” said Christie Holderegger, Regional VP of Northern Nevada, Volunteers of America. “This session's participants have worked hard to overcome barriers to stable employment, and built a tool chest that will prepare them for long-term sustainable employment."
