The University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) is set to hold its annual Performing Arts Series that spotlights an eclectic lineup of performances.

This is the 62nd season of the show, and it will highlight artistic stories in hopes of deepening cross-cultural awareness; a recent UNR news release said.

“The last few years have emphasized the vital role that the performing arts play in our daily lives,” Shoshana Zeldner, program manager with the School of the Arts, said in the release.

There will be five featured performances this season, including a koto-violin-percussion instrumental, soulful beatboxing, zapateado and tap dance, comedic chamber music and an elevated vocal performance.

“Through exceptional artistry, this year’s performers explore those tender fault lines that make us human,” Zeldner said. “When that type of honesty and artistry coincide, it holds the potential to transform hearts and minds, initiate dialogue and positively transform our community.”

The first performance will feature polyrhythmic dance and music ensemble La Mezcla, the release said. It will be held on Thursday at the Robert Z. Hawkins Amphitheater. A pre-performance celebration will kick off at 6 p.m., with La Mezcla taking the stage at 7:30 p.m.

“Through thoughtful choreography, arrangement and presentation, this year’s season reminds us that the world we live in is both exquisite and imperfect, with plenty of work to do in building a more equitable future for all,” Zeldner said.
