The Nevada Department of Veteran Services has named a University of Nevada, Reno's Office of Real Estate employee as Veteran Employee of the Month for July.

According to a university news release, Peggy Bohn received the recognition because she has always gone beyond her job duties.

Bohn was nominated by Jessica Maher, administrative assistant for Environmental Health & Safety, who has seen Bohn be an exemplary employee.

“She has always been there to make sure that classified employees’ voices are heard. She brings information from legislative and NSHE consistently. She will even stand at the legislative building for them when she feels it is important,” Maher said.

Bohn began her career at UNR in October 1993 by helping coordinate logistics for the scheduling office.

Maher said, “I have known Peggy since I started at the University in 2014. She is always happy to see you if you require help with work-related projects or inquiries, and she almost always has the answers for you. If she doesn’t have your answer she makes sure to find out for you.”

This isn’t the first time that Bohn has received recognition for her work. While she was in the Army, she was awarded the Army achievement medal, two good conduct medals and an Army service ribbon for marksmanship.

Bohn said the campus has transformed during her tenure, but that it still has a “small town atmosphere.”

“With the assistance of the Veterans and Military Center and the Veteran’s Services Office, we are looking at ways to assist our brothers and sisters in arms with their educational, social and family advances with our support, knowledge and guidance,” Bohn said.

The Nevada Department of Administration began recognizing veterans for the award in January 2021.
