UNR professor says she likes to ‘bike commute to campus’ | Hobson on a ride by the ocean in Long Beach, Washington.
Emily Hobson, Chair of the Department of Gender, Race and Identity (GRI) recently spoke about her love for biking and how it has benefited her in and out of the classroom.
According to a news release by the University of Nevada, Reno, Emily Hobson has been riding bikes since she was six years old.
Hobson said she enjoys biking for transportation and fun and enjoys commuting to campus.
“I really love to ride by water and on bike paths where you can just go and go. My favorite rides have included the new path along the edge of Lake Tahoe, along the Charles River in Cambridge and Boston, bike trails in Santa Barbara between downtown and Goleta, and from the city of Orange out to the ocean along the Santa Ana River,” she said in the release. “I've also had a lot of fun on rides with big groups taking over the street, like in Critical Mass and in CicLavia, an annual bike festival in LA. Bikes can (help) change the world!”
She added that biking helps calm her and is an easy way for her to get exercise without getting dressed to go to the gym.
“It's super helpful that there's a bike rack in front of GRI's building on campus (Thompson). I love being able to ignore my car for days at a time,” she said.
