Two artists will be part the University of Nevada, Reno, The University of Nevada, Reno School of the Arts artist-in-residence program, which is also being backed by the Great Basin National Park Foundation.
According to a news release shared by the university, the artists are Paul Crow, a visual artist and associate professor of art at Weber State University in Ogden, Utah who specializes in installation art and photography and local literary artist Mark Maynard, who is a professor of English at Truckee Meadows Community College in Reno.
“I was thrilled to hear that I had been awarded the residency, as a lot of my recent work has involved working on location outside in natural environments,” Crow said in the release.
According to the university, the artists will start a camping residency somewhere off the beaten track at Great Basin National Park starting Friday, July 8 and continuing through Sunday, Aug. 7. The remote environment will allow the artists to be inspired for their work.
Maynard said: “I applied last year and spent some time reworking my application materials, so I was really excited when I heard I was selected. My wife and I visited the park last summer, both for the first time, so I'm really looking forward to returning this summer and getting to spend more significant time there.”
