Athletes in Action will honor Nevada Men’s Basketball Head Coach Steve Alford with the Coach Wooden “Keys to Life” Award at its annual breakfast event. The award ceremony will take place during the NCAA Men’s Final Four Weekend on April 4 at the Indiana Convention Center.
Alford expressed his appreciation for the recognition, stating, “I’m very humbled and honored to receive this award. I’ve been fortunate to attend the ‘Keys to Life’ breakfast for many years, and it’s always been a highlight of mine during the Final Four. This is a true blessing, and I’m very grateful to be a part of this year’s event in my home state of Indiana.”
Alford’s basketball career includes being a two-time All-American player at Indiana University and contributing to the Hoosiers’ 1987 NCAA Championship under Coach Bobby Knight. As a coach, he is among only four coaches who have led five different teams to the NCAA Division I Tournament.
The Keys to Life Breakfast, now in its 29th year, is organized by Athletes in Action and recognizes individuals from basketball who demonstrate character, leadership, and integrity both personally and professionally. Chris Broussard, co-host on Fox TV’s “First Things First” and former ESPN NBA analyst, will serve as emcee for this year’s event.
The Keys to Life Award is named after John Wooden, the legendary UCLA coach known for his leadership qualities and ties to Indiana. It is awarded annually to those in basketball who best reflect Wooden’s values.
