San Diego State defeated Nevada 4-3 in a closely contested Mountain West men’s tennis dual at McArthur Tennis Center in Reno on March 29.
The match was decided by the final singles contest, with San Diego State’s Aleksi Lofman securing the win over Nevada’s Axel Huysmans. The result keeps San Diego State unbeaten in conference play while Nevada remains winless in the Mountain West.
Nevada (9-6, 0-3 MW) lost the doubles point but fought back to tie the overall score at three matches each. The deciding match at No. 1 singles saw Lofman outlast Huysmans with a 7-6 (3), 7-5 victory, clinching the team win for San Diego State (9-9, 3-0 MW).
In doubles action, William Kleege and Aleksi Lofman of San Diego State defeated Nicolas Recoura and Rayen Hermassi of Nevada at No.1, while Eugenio Gonzalez Fitzmaurice and Imran Daniel Hazli secured a tiebreaker win over Rémy Trégourès and Greg Valente at No.2 to claim the doubles point for San Diego State. Max Contet and Axel Huysmans won their doubles match for Nevada on Court 3.
Nevada’s singles victories came from Trégourès at No.2 (6-1, 6-3), Hermassi at No.4 (6-2, 7-6 [6]), and Contet at No.6 (6-3, 6-4). Other singles results included wins by Gonzalez Fitzmaurice over Ibrahim Snoussi for San Diego State and Lars Johann defeating Valente.
Looking ahead, Nevada will face UNLV next Saturday, April 4, in Las Vegas as part of the Silver State Series.
