The City of Reno, in partnership with the Cordillera International Film Festival, will host “Flicks on the Bricks: Outdoor Movie Nights” at West Street Plaza. The event series will take place on the first Friday of each month from August through October, starting at 8 p.m., with movies beginning at sundown.

Vice Mayor Kathleen Taylor commented on the ongoing improvements in downtown Reno. “We’ve been working hard to give our downtown corridor a fresh look, and free community events like these movie nights are a wonderful way for families to come together and see all the new improvements,” said Taylor. “I encourage everyone to come out, connect, and be part of the energy that’s making downtown Reno such a vibrant place to live.”

The schedule includes screenings of “Barbie” on August 1, “National Treasure” on September 5, and “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” on October 3. Attendees can enjoy lawn games and food from a local food truck before each screening. Drinks will also be available from Sierra Tap House nearby. Seating is limited; attendees are encouraged to arrive early or bring their own blankets and chairs.

Emily Skyle, Executive Director of the Cordillera International Film Festival, said, “We believe in the incredible power of film to unite people, and we’re excited to host these events for both locals and visitors to enjoy. Each screening is a chance to spark conversation, foster connection, and showcase stories that resonate with audiences of all backgrounds.”

This series is part of an initiative by the City of Reno to activate its downtown corridor with various events as recommended by findings from the Virginia Street Placemaking and Truckee River Studies. These studies indicated that hosting activities could contribute positively to revitalization efforts in downtown Reno.
