Police responded to an active shooter situation at the Grand Sierra Resort and Casino in Reno, Nevada on July 28, 2025. The incident began around 7:25 a.m., prompting a rapid response from the Reno Police Department and several partner agencies.
Officers arrived at the scene within two and a half minutes of the initial report. Upon arrival, police located the suspect, leading to an officer-involved shooting. The suspect was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital. The current condition of the suspect is not known. Authorities have stated that there is no ongoing threat to public safety.
First responders and medical staff at the Grand Sierra Resort provided immediate care to multiple victims as well as the suspect. Several victims were transported by REMSA to area hospitals, but their conditions have not been released.
The investigation remains active, with law enforcement asking people to avoid the west side parking lot of the resort. The Sparks Police Department is leading both the officer-involved shooting and active shooter investigations, with assistance from the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office.
Employees and patrons are advised to use only the Greg Street entrance and continue avoiding the west side parking lot while authorities work at the scene.
