One person found dead after Sun Valley house fire

A person was found dead following a house fire early Tuesday morning in Sun Valley, according to the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities reported that at about 1:15 a.m. on February 24, 2026, deputies responded to a possible structure fire in the 5000 block of Carol Drive. Upon arrival, deputies observed smoke coming from inside the home.

The Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District arrived and began efforts to put out the fire. The incident was contained to the single residence and did not affect neighboring houses. During their response, officials located one deceased individual inside.

Detectives from the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the circumstances surrounding the fire. The Washoe County Medical Regional Examiner’s Office will also conduct an investigation into the death. The identity of the deceased is being withheld until next of kin can be notified.
