Nevada Women’s Tennis lost to New Mexico, 4-3, in its second conference game of the season after initially leading 3-0, according to a March 15 match summary.

The result is significant as Nevada had built a strong advantage before New Mexico rallied with four straight points to secure the win. The loss brings Nevada’s record to 4-7 overall and 0-2 in conference play, while New Mexico improves to 10-4 and starts its conference campaign at 1-0.

Nevada began the day by winning the doubles point. After Vianca Corley and Vivica Corley of New Mexico defeated Wiem Boubaker and Kennedy Robinson, Nevada responded with Amahée Charrier and Petra Janigova edging Yu Yun Kathy Tsai and Bente Vandeputte, followed by Silvia Maria-Costache and Marlene Foerster clinching the point against Sarah L’Allier and Coumba Ben Niangadou.

In singles play, Charrier extended Nevada’s lead by defeating Vandeputte, and Boubaker added another win over Malazdra. However, New Mexico started its comeback when Foerster fell to Vianca Corley in three sets. The Lobos tied the match after Janigova lost to Tsai and Costache was defeated by Veroux in close contests. The deciding match came down to court five where Robinson was unable to overcome Matsoukatidi, giving New Mexico the victory.

Nevada will return home next weekend for matches against Wyoming on Friday at noon and Colorado State on Sunday at noon.

The outcome highlights both teams’ competitiveness within their conference as they continue their seasons.
