Nevada Wolf Pack athletics announced on March 30 that several of its teams will compete in important contests this week, with softball traveling to Phoenix and baseball and women’s tennis hosting games at home.

These events are significant as they may impact conference standings and postseason opportunities for the university’s athletic programs. The softball team is set to play a series against Grand Canyon University, which could affect their position in the Mountain West title race. Maintaining a top-two spot is crucial since it allows teams to skip the play-in round of the upcoming Credit Union 1 Mountain West Championship scheduled for May 6-9 at Hixson Park.

The women’s tennis team returns to McArthur Tennis Center, facing Grand Canyon University on Thursday and San Diego State on Saturday, both at noon. Baseball will first travel to Gonzaga for a non-conference game before returning home to host Simpson on Thursday afternoon at Don Weir Field at Peccole Park. The men’s tennis team will seek its first Mountain West win when it travels to Las Vegas for a Silver State Series matchup against UNLV on Saturday.

In addition, Nevada’s track and field athletes will participate in three different meets: the Brutus Hamilton Invitational in Berkeley from April 2-4, the Stanford Invite from April 3-4, and the Mike Fanelli Track Classic in San Francisco during those same dates. Six athletes or teams are currently ranked among the top fifty nationally.

The outcomes of these competitions may influence not only current conference rankings but also future tournament seedings and national recognition for Nevada student-athletes.
