Nevada Softball began its 2026 season at the Tiger Classic in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, with a strong showing on opening day. The team recorded a decisive 9-0 win over Illinois before facing No. 16/13 LSU and falling 6-2.
In the first game against Illinois, freshman Katie Wetteland made an immediate impact by hitting her first career home run for Nevada and finishing with three hits, two home runs, and five RBIs. Karolyn Glover also contributed by going 2-for-2 with two home runs and three RBIs. Pitcher Hailey McLean completed the game with six strikeouts while allowing only three hits.
Against LSU, Nevada faced an early deficit but narrowed the gap when Madison Clark stole home in the third inning. Talia Tretton added a solo home run in the sixth to bring Nevada within one run before LSU extended its lead. Tretton finished the game with two hits, a home run, and pitched five innings with four strikeouts.
Nevada will continue play at the Tiger Classic on Saturday against NC State at 10:30 a.m., followed by another matchup with LSU at 3:30 p.m.
