Nevada Softball achieved two wins on the second day of the Jane Sanders Classic, defeating Oregon State 10-2 and No. 18 Oregon 8-5 in Eugene, Oregon.

The victory over Oregon marks Nevada’s first win against a Top-25 team since beating No. 2 Washington in 2021. The team now holds a season record of 16-8 and will face Oregon again on Sunday to conclude their participation in the tournament.

In the opening game against Oregon State, Katie Wetteland hit a triple that brought in two runs, giving Nevada an early lead. Hannah Di Genova followed with another triple to score Wetteland. Additional hits by Talia Tretton and Matlyn Leetch helped end the first inning with Nevada leading 5-1.

During the third inning, Leetch scored again before Madison Clark drove her home with an RBI single, increasing the lead to 7-2. The game ended after Leetch hit a three-run inside-the-park home run, resulting in a run-rule victory for Nevada.

Against No. 18 Oregon, Nevada took an early lead with two runs in the first inning. After Oregon reduced the deficit, Wetteland responded with a three-run home run in the third inning. Although Oregon tied the game at five later that inning, Bailie Clark restored Nevada’s advantage with her first home run of the season during the fourth.

Haylee Engelbrecht and Karolyn Glover each drew bases-loaded walks to extend Nevada’s lead to 8-5 later in that same inning. Pitcher Talia Tretton threw for over four innings and recorded three strikeouts to earn her fifth win of the season (now at 5-2). Tess Bumiller entered as relief in the fifth inning and allowed only two hits across nearly three innings to secure a save.

Nevada is scheduled for a rematch against Oregon on Sunday at Jane Sanders Field.
