Nevada’s men’s basketball team will face San José State on the road Tuesday, February 17, as part of their ongoing Mountain West Conference schedule. The game is set for 7 p.m. at the Credit Union Event Center in San Jose, California.
The Wolf Pack, with a current record of 17-8 overall and 9-5 in conference play, are looking to recover after a recent loss to San Diego State. In that matchup, Nevada fell 57-71. Elijah Price led Nevada with a double-double—scoring 17 points and collecting 10 rebounds—while Corey Camper Jr. added 16 points and five rebounds. Despite these efforts, Nevada struggled defensively against the Aztecs’ shooting and was outperformed in bench scoring and points from turnovers.
Earlier this season, Nevada secured a decisive victory over San José State, winning 87-54 on January 20. In that game, Corey Camper Jr. scored 19 points while three other players also reached double figures. The Wolf Pack shot efficiently from both the field and beyond the arc and outscored the Spartans significantly in bench production.
San José State enters Tuesday’s contest following a loss to Grand Canyon University where Colby Garland led his team with 23 points and seven assists. The Spartans showed offensive efficiency but were outmatched in rebounding and paint scoring by Grand Canyon.
Nevada has benefited from strong performances by its players throughout the season. Corey Camper Jr., who was named Mountain West Player of the Week on February 2 after averaging notable numbers against GCU and UNLV, continues to lead the team’s offense with an average of 17.6 points per game this season. Elijah Price also earned Player of the Week honors earlier this year for his contributions against San Diego State and Wyoming.
The Wolf Pack’s depth has been an important factor; they have posted a strong record when their bench outscores opponents’ reserves this season. Freshmen such as Peyton White, Ethan Croley, and Myles Walker have contributed significantly off the bench.
Elijah Price ranks among league leaders in rebounding with a total of 222 boards so far this season—a mark that places him second in the Mountain West—and is also among leaders in blocked shots.
Nevada leads its conference in free throws made per game (19.2) as well as attempts (25.4), while ranking third in blocks per game (3.8). Nationally, they stand at No.12 for fewest turnovers per game (9.3), having recorded ten or fewer turnovers in most games played so far.
After facing San José State, Nevada will return home for games against Utah State on February 21 and New Mexico on February 24 at Lawlor Events Center.
“I think our guys have shown resilience all year,” said head coach Steve Alford before Tuesday’s matchup.
