Nevada falls to Sacramento State in close home tennis opener

Nevada’s women’s tennis team lost its home opener against Sacramento State at the McArthur Tennis Center on Saturday. The final score was 4-3 in favor of Sacramento State, which improved its season record to 9-4. Nevada now stands at 4-5.

Sacramento State started strong by winning the doubles point. Nevada responded with singles victories from Amahée Charrier and Kennedy Robinson at positions one and five, giving the Wolf Pack a temporary 2-1 lead.

Silvia-Maria Costache added another singles win for Nevada with a three-set victory (6-3, 5-7, 6-4). However, Sacramento State tied the match after Lou Baudouin defeated Marlene Foerster in three sets at No. 2 singles (3-6, 7-5, 6-2).

The Hornets secured the overall win with straight-set victories at No. 3 and No. 6 singles.

Nevada will begin Mountain West conference play next Friday with an away match against Air Force, followed by a visit to New Mexico two days later.

Singles results included Charrier defeating Reese (6-3, 6-2), Baudouin beating Foerster (3-6, 7-5, 6-2), Riva overcoming Janigova (7-6, 6-2), Costache defeating Maldonado Gutierrez (6-3, 5-7, 6-4), Robinson winning over Pranyte (6-2, 6-2), and Saulevich beating Boubaker (6-4, 6-4).

In doubles play: Foerster/Costache beat Riva/Baudouin (6-2); Pranyte/Saulevich defeated Charrier/Robinson (6-4); Walker/Maldonado Gutierrez overcame Janigova/Boubaker (6-3).

Sacramento State leaves Reno with a narrow victory as both teams look ahead to their upcoming matches.
