Nevada lost a close game to No. 17/22 Grand Canyon University on April 2, falling 4–3 at GCU Softball Stadium in Phoenix.

The matchup was significant as Nevada, with a record of 24-13 and 6-4 in conference play, faced one of the top-ranked teams in the country. The result reflects both teams’ competitive level this season.

Grand Canyon took an early lead with Emily Gonzalez hitting a solo home run in the first inning. Nevada responded in the third when Hannah DiGenova hit her sixteenth home run of the season to tie the score at one. However, Grand Canyon quickly regained momentum by scoring twice more in their half of the third inning.

Throughout the night, Nevada kept pressure on Grand Canyon’s defense, recording eight hits overall. Madison Clark contributed an RBI triple that brought Nevada closer at 4–2, while Katelyn Wetteland delivered an RBI single in the seventh inning to cut Grand Canyon’s lead to just one run. Matlyn Leetch also had multiple hits for Nevada.

Pitcher Tess Bumiller started for Nevada and allowed three runs over 2.2 innings on six hits. Relievers Hailey McLean and Ainsley Berlingeri combined for another 3.1 innings and limited Grand Canyon to only one additional run.

Looking ahead, Nevada is set to face Grand Canyon again tomorrow at 7 p.m., continuing their series in Phoenix.
