Nevada defeated San Francisco 14-9 on March 24 at Don Weir Field at Peccole Park in Reno, ending its five-game home stand with a victory.
The game was close until the sixth inning, when Nevada scored nine runs after taking advantage of four walks and a hit batter. This rally turned a one-run contest into a comfortable lead for the Wolf Pack.
Nate Snakenborg started the big inning with an RBI double, one of his three hits in the game. Walks to Jayce Dobie and Jacob Doyle forced in additional runs, while Jake Harvey drove in four runs overall, including three on a bases-clearing double. Jackson Waller finished off the inning with a two-run homer to left field.
Reliever Ryan Oakes earned his first win of the season by striking out nine batters over 3.2 shutout innings after coming on for starter Jayce Dobie in the third. San Francisco had taken an early lead with RBI singles from Matteo Bellisimo and Jordan Lewis but could not hold it as Nevada tied the game by the third inning and took control soon after.
Brendan Burke hit a late three-run homer for San Francisco, but it was not enough to overcome Nevada’s offense. Rominic Quiban, Harvey, and Mikey Cruz Jr. each collected two hits for Nevada.
Nevada will return to Mountain West Conference play this weekend with a three-game series against Washington State starting Friday.
