Nevada Softball secured an 8-0 win over Boise State on March 14, marking its first conference victory of the season at Christina M. Hixson Park in Reno.
The game was decided by the run-rule after five innings, with Nevada improving to a 17-10 overall record and a 1-1 mark in Mountain West play. Boise State fell to 13-16 overall and also holds a 1-1 conference record.
Nevada took an early lead in the second inning when Lexi O’Gorman singled, allowing Hannah Di Genova to score. The team extended its advantage in the fourth inning as Haylee Engelbrecht hit a two-run home run to left field, bringing the score to 3-0.
The fifth inning saw Nevada add five more runs. Anna Braukus hit her first home run of the season, making it 4-0. O’Gorman then delivered a walk-off grand slam, ending the game under the run-rule and securing the win for Nevada.
Pitcher Tess Bumiller held Boise State to four hits and no runs while recording six strikeouts during her time in the circle.
Nevada and Boise State are scheduled to conclude their series tomorrow at Christina M. Hixson Park, wrapping up their first weekend of conference play.
