Nevada lost to UC Davis, 11-9, in a college baseball game on April 7 at Don Weir Field at Peccole Park in Reno. Despite scoring seven runs over the final two innings, Nevada was unable to overcome an early deficit.
The outcome is significant for Nevada as it brings their season record to 17-12 and highlights the team’s resilience during the late stages of the game. The Wolf Pack trailed by nine runs heading into the eighth inning before mounting a comeback attempt.
Sean Yamaguchi hit two home runs during Nevada’s rally, with his first being a three-run shot that contributed to a six-run eighth inning. His second homer was a solo shot leading off the ninth. “Nevada scored seven times over the final two innings to pull within two of UC Davis, but it was not enough in an 11-9 loss Tuesday at Don Weir Field at Peccole Park,” according to information released about the game.
Pinch-hitter Noah Blythe suffered an injury rounding first base after hitting a single in the ninth inning and was tagged out for the game’s final out. Other notable performances included Rominic Quiban going 3-for-5 with two runs scored and Mikey Cruz Jr. and Junhyuk Kwon contributing RBI hits during Nevada’s eighth-inning surge.
UC Davis improved its record to 12-17 behind Ethan Felix’s three-run homer in the seventh inning and strong offensive performances from several players who recorded three hits each.
Looking ahead, Nevada will return to Mountain West Conference play on Friday night when they host San José State at Peccole Park for the start of a three-game weekend series.
