City of Reno recently issued the following announcement.

Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve has issued the following statement regarding the passing of Charles “Chuck” Mathewson:

On behalf of the entire City of Reno—our Reno City Council, employees and residents—today we remember the incredible leader and philanthropist, Chuck Mathewson. I send my deepest condolences to his wife, Stacie, and all who were fortunate enough to know him.

When I think back on all the special people who have positively impacted my life, Chuck is certainly on that list. He consistently gave back to our community, and Reno truly is a better place because of him.

His passion for education brought incredible advancements to the University of Nevada, Reno, including the Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center. His love for the arts included an extremely generous gift to the Nevada Museum of Art. We will forever cherish these amazing contributions to our community, and think of Chuck fondly whenever we get a chance to experience them.

I would be remiss not to recognize his unprecedented career at IGT. Transforming the company from a small Reno business to a household name known across the nation, Chuck will always be remembered as one of our region’s greatest business leaders.

Chuck was a northern Nevada icon and will be sorely missed.
