Nevada Track and Field athletes earned silver medals on May 15 during the Credit Union 1 Mountain West Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Clovis, California. Alma Kathan secured second place in the heptathlon, while Kaja Maltaric finished as runner-up in the long jump.
The results highlight Nevada’s continued performance at the championships, with athletes achieving personal bests and contributing significant points to the team’s standings. Kathan’s heptathlon score of 5,414 points marked her first Mountain West medal in her second year with Nevada. She placed second in the long jump portion of the heptathlon with a mark of 6.08 meters, achieved a personal-best throw of 35.47 meters for fourth place in javelin, and finished sixth in the 800 meters at 2:24.76.
Anne Schuch also contributed to Nevada’s team total by finishing sixth overall in the heptathlon with 4,984 points. Schuch recorded a second-place finish in javelin (38.64m), was tenth in long jump (5.35m), and ninth in the 800 meters (2:30.04).
In field events outside of heptathlon competition, Maltaric matched her indoor silver medal by jumping a personal-best distance of 6.13 meters for eight team points; Kathan added five more by placing fourth with a leap of 6.05 meters.
On track events, Annalies Kalma advanced to finals after placing fourth in the preliminary round of the women’s 400 meters with a time of 54.81 seconds; Kylee Parsons ran a personal best for eleventh place at 54.71 seconds. Maggie George qualified for finals as well after finishing eighth (11.51) in preliminaries for the women’s 100 meters.
Other performances included Misa Holland finishing fifteenth (15.49) during preliminaries for women’s hurdles; Natalie Roberts taking sixteenth place (11:07.72) during steeplechase; Alyssa Carson clearing pole vault at fifteen position (3.58m); Adessa Matthews did not record a height.
As competition heads into its final day tomorrow, Nevada sits at forty-two team points and holds fourth place overall.
