Registration has opened for the Speedway Saturdays Mario Kart tournament, organized by the City of Reno’s Parks and Recreation department. The monthly event is aimed at students in grades K-12, including those who are homeschooled, for the 2025-2026 school year.
The tournament will be held twice each month at the Evelyn Mount Northeast Community Center from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. One Saturday each month will feature a Kids Tournament for participants under age 13, while another Saturday will host a Teens Tournament for those ages 13 to 18. Registration costs $20 per child per tournament day, and parents or guardians must register their children individually each month at least 24 hours before the event.
“Our Parks and Recreation team is always looking for fresh and creative ways to inspire and engage the young people of our city,” said Vice Mayor Kathleen Taylor. “I’m truly excited to see our young people participating in this event, building connections, having fun, and creating lasting memories outside of school.”
The first competition is scheduled for August 16 with additional dates set through December for both age groups. All participants must be accompanied by someone age 12 or older during the events; drop-offs are not allowed. A lunch break is planned from noon to 1 p.m., during which time the tournament room will be closed.
Tournament procedures include check-in upon arrival where kids receive an assigned start time. Participants are grouped into brackets by age based on sign-ups, with winners advancing through elimination rounds until four finalists compete in a final battle. The winner receives a prize.
Parents and guardians can find registration details on the City of Reno’s Parks and Recreation registration page.
