The City of Reno, in collaboration with the Downtown Reno Partnership (DRP), has introduced a new Rolling Recreation trailer aimed at providing free recreational programming to residents and visitors throughout downtown Reno. The official unveiling event is scheduled for Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at Locomotion Plaza.

This initiative follows the recent recognition of the City of Reno Parks and Recreation Department by the Nevada Recreation and Park Society (NRPS), which awarded the department the Program Excellence Award for its Rolling Recreation program. The award highlights the program’s impact on community engagement and crime reduction in downtown Reno.

“Rolling Recreation is a creative and effective way to bring people together and make our Biggest Little City even more vibrant,” said Vice Mayor Taylor. “We’re proud to partner with the Downtown Reno Partnership to expand our presence downtown and make recreation more accessible to everyone.”

Funding for the new trailer was provided through American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds, supporting efforts to enhance public spaces and ensure equitable access to recreation. The trailer features a custom design and is backed by a three-year sponsorship from DRP.

With this sponsorship, there will be 20 activations in 2025, increasing to 40 activations annually in both 2026 and 2027. Starting this month, residents can find the trailer at several downtown locations on a regular schedule: Mondays at Glow Plaza; Tuesdays at Locomotion Plaza; Wednesdays and Sundays at Evans Park; Thursdays at West Street Plaza; as well as Sundays at Greater Nevada Field during Aces home games or Evans Park when games are away.

These events will take place across both public areas—such as parks—and private spaces belonging to businesses that are part of the Downtown Reno Business Improvement District (BID). Organizers hope that these activities will draw more people downtown, foster stronger community ties, and support local economic activity by benefiting small businesses alongside residents and visitors.

“We see this as an investment in Reno’s future,” said Neoma Jardon, Executive Director of the Downtown Reno Partnership. “By supporting Rolling Recreation, we’re bringing positive energy into our downtown spaces, helping local businesses thrive, and giving people more reasons to explore and enjoy all that downtown has to offer.”

Attendees can participate in various free activities including games, fitness classes, art projects, among others. Updates about event dates, times, and locations can be found on the Park Activities webpage. Businesses interested in sponsoring Rolling Recreation are encouraged to contact Landon Miller at millerl@reno.gov or call 775-842-8173.
