The City of Reno has announced the installation of a new U-turn sign at the intersection of Veterans and Steamboat Parkways, aimed at improving traffic safety for northbound drivers on Veterans Parkway. This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to enhance road safety across the city.

Ward 6 Councilmember Brandi Anderson commented on the development, stating, “We’ve had a lot of updates to this intersection over the years, and we’re excited to implement a new safety feature to help prevent crashes. It’s important to be aware of your surroundings while driving, and we’ve already seen these improvements keep residents safe.”

The digital U-turn sign was installed earlier in spring and is one of four such signs used throughout Reno. The sign prohibits U-turns when illuminated during peak weekday hours but allows them when turned off.

In addition to this, a new sign has been placed on eastbound Steamboat Parkway. It advises drivers turning right on red to be cautious of vehicles making U-turns on Veterans Parkway. This was implemented in early May.

The Reno Fire Department also issued reminders regarding special flashing beacons near Fire Station 12. Drivers are urged to keep this area clear for emergency vehicle access.

Reno Fire Chief David Cochran emphasized the importance of driver awareness around these signals: “We want to remind drivers to be mindful of the flashing yellow lights near Station 12 and encourage them to stop behind the white road markers when the light ahead is red. Stopping inside those markers will block our emergency vehicles, causing a delay in response to critical calls.”

Additionally, it remains illegal for drivers to make U-turns directly in front of Fire Station 12 under any circumstances.
